Hello, I'm Angela Reis.
Certified Birth Doula, Certified Postpartum & Newborn Doula, & Yoga Teacher
My name is Angela Reis, I am a yoga teacher, professional doula and mother. I proudly serve my community through my vast array of knowledge, experience, reliability and inclusivity. My superpowers are helping others to relax, releasing fears, and surrendering expectations.
In 2013, I learned I was expecting my first child. Both excited and nervous, I was overwhelmed by all the different opinions and information on the pregnancy and parenting. That same year, I graduated with my 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kathleen Santor. Prior to getting pregnant, I had been practicing yoga and meditation for the past five years on a consistent basis. I attribute my yoga and meditation practice for helping me to manage my anxiety, stress and have an overall more positive outlook.
After months of preparation, my first child, a baby boy was born at home into loving arms. Through my first birth experience, I finally understood the power of birth that I had only heard about. From that moment on, I knew that I was committed to helping other women and families have a supportive pregnancy and postpartum experience.
I found out I was pregnant with my second child when my oldest was 8 months old. My second pregnancy and birth experience was nothing like the first. Having two children close in age rocked my world. I was ridden with guilt and disappointment. I desperately wanted to breastfeed my first for one year but when I approached 20 weeks into pregnancy with baby number two, I couldn’t get through the nursing aversions. I felt plagued with guilt and utter disappointment.
Finally once baby number two arrive, there was much relief. Motherhood was easier and harder the second time. Easier because I knew how to care for a newborn. But harder because I had an additional child to care for. It was not until the birth of my second son, that I felt the calling and had the ability to support families through doula work.
My journey helped me understand and clarify my message. Pregnancy and parenting is not a one-size fits all. Only you know what’s best for your family. As a birth professional I am sensitive towards the needs, desires and experiences of my clients. My intention as a birth worker is that you are empowered by knowledge, feel cared for and nurtured, and leave with a positive birth and postpartum experience.
The important stuff
I knew from an early age that my life’s purpose was to serve others. From animals, to children, to women and youth, I strive to leave the world a better place than I found it. I started my career working for local youth serving non-profit organizations. Through my experiences with different organizations and different roles, I was able to see the world from new perspective.
I am a committed to life-long learning. I graduated from UNLV with my bachelors in Political Science and minor in Sociology. I am Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and have additional training in prenatal, fertility yoga, mindfulness meditation, children's yoga, prenatal yoga, restorative, Ayurveda, yoga nidra and Reiki I & II. I am a Certified REAL Birth and Postpartum & Newborn Doula. I have experience working with high risk pregnancy, advance maternal age, assisted reproduction, unmedicated and medicated birth, cesarean, VBAC, and loss.
What do I do for fun?
I am always learning! You can find me when I am not teaching classes, I am taking them. Also, I recently started to get into podcasts. I am an avid reader, I read everything from classic literature to non-fiction. I am especially passionate about women’s empowerment, self-love and boring self-care. I love cooking and baking, stick-to-your-ribs type of meals. I am always up for a new adventure!
