Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, HypnoBirthing® Instructor

Hi, I’m Khristina – a certified DONA birth doula, certified HypnoBirthing childbirth educator and birth photographer. I am not a nurse, midwife or your partner, but I can support all three.

My journey into the birthing world started with my first pregnancy. My husband and I had a rough time finding a care provider that would support our wishes to have a natural birth (yep, that’s all I wanted.) After switching providers we found an amazing midwifery team. I’d taken a 5 week HypnoBirthing® class to better prepare my mind, my spouse and my body. A few women had expressed their joys of using a doula for their own births, so I checked into the doula services of our HypnoBirthing® instructor.

The thought of having someone with us that would know our own plans, desires, and comfort measures made me feel an overwhelming rush of relief – an invaluable feeling during pregnancy. From the initial consultation we knew she was the one for us.

During labor, she supported both me and my husband in a way that allowed us to focus solely on my body and our baby. We were given the courage and support to advocate for ourselves, all while being physically and emotionally supported by our doula – something I believe every woman deserves.

After the experience was over, I was so unbelievably thankful for our doula and I had this overwhelming urge to share that joy with other moms. When sharing my experience with even my closest family and friends, I could tell that my experience had been different, almost like I had been offered more freedom in my birthing. Why should I be offered different services than them? That is where the desire to be a doula began.

There is a beautiful saying about birth that resonated with me through my pregnancy and through my journey to become a birth professional – “it is said that women in labor travel to the stars to retrieve the souls of their baby, and they return to this world together”. My birth business is based on that beautiful, anonymous quote.

Through my various trainings and studies, I have learned how to support and assist mothers during labor as well as childbirth and breastfeeding education. I have experience working with unmedicated and medicated pregnancies, hospital, home birth and birth center births, VBACs, high-risk pregnancies, advanced maternal age, cesareans, prodromal labor, land and water births. From my own experiences delivering in a hospital setting with midwives to delivering at home with a midwife – both unmedicated water births and HypnoBirthing experiences – I have witnessed the support needs of the birthing person and partner during labor. Every birth is unique, with its own challenges and successes. Every birthing person should know that they have a choices as to how they birth. I want to support birth in a way that allows my clients to feel empowered, encouraged and at one with their baby and body.

What do I do for fun?

When I’m not doing birth work, I have a BS in Graphic Design, own my own design business and enjoy writing. I work from my home which I share with my loving pilot husband, our two little boys and various fur babies. We love adventure and world travel. I also enjoy a good cup of tea and a good book on my off days.
